Holiday wear

If you knew me before my twins were born, it should come as no surprise to anyone that my kids are often dressed in something I have made. Where did this start? In the words of Elyse Myers “great question I would love to tell you”. And the answer is, I have no idea. I think I might have just been born that way, it’s simply the way my brain works. In 3rd grade I was making design sketchbooks complete with color swatches. In 4th grade my idol was Coco Channel. In middle school I was sewing and knitting up a storm. College I made dresses and costumes on my dorm room floor and I learned to crochet. I have always been happiest when I have some sort of creative project going on and the holiday season always provides so much inspiration.

Just out of college I decided that I needed to send out Christmas cards, because that’s a typical early 20 something with no significant other or family of their own, thing to do (said dripping with sarcasm). The first year I staged the dog as a choir boy. The next year things escalated to not only a Christmas card but also a halloween card! When my now husband and I moved in together and got a cat…I made them matching bow ties for multiple holiday events. It’s a good thing I married someone who is all in on my harebrained schemes! Once the twins arrived there was very little time, or for that matter energy, to craft. But what I could do was knit. Knitting requires very little set up and can be done sitting on the couch watching tv. It’s an easy pick up and put down project (at least when all you are doing is basic hats). So the twins had seasonal hats for every holiday and in some cases multiples! But I didn’t just stop there. I sent hats to friends who graciously thanked me and sent me photos of their kids wearing the hats. While maybe it was just out of politeness I feel confident in saying enough people like the hats that they are going up in the shop!
